I’ve been out of the South for over 30 years, but I still have that rule ingrained into me.

In our neck of the Southern woods, the same rules also applied to patent shoes—only worn between Memorial Day and Labor Day. 😉

Doesn't a similar rule apply to white trousers and slacks? And seersucker?

Tom, if not already a cut off item, then seersucker & white trousers should fall under the same rule. Added to the rule should be any patent leather accessory, including purses/handbags

So ingrained in my upbringing, I can not abide by “winter white” clothing as well. It just isn’t right. ( Pearl clutch)

Im a yankee but i have lived in NC since 1981. I wear winter white all year long. It is one of my best colors. Always get a lot of compliments. However i do remember getting white sandals as a sign of Spring and Summer. So exciting!
