Some of my favorite memories are when I would spend the night at my grandmother’s house and have grits in the morning. They were the run-of-the-mill brand and some butter, but it’s the memories that make me smile.

I was born a Yankee (well, Yankee adjacent. I’m from California.) so when I moved to Texas I decided that I would embrace two icons of Southern culture immediately and those were grits and Dr. Pepper. Easy to do because both are awesome.

Haha - I was going to mention the Marsh Hen Mill on Edisto. Just got some there about a month ago.

When we lived in OH (far too long in my opinion), our Yankee friends could not understand the Southern obsession with grits. And this from people who eat homemade noodles over mashed potatoes.

We finally got some of our close friends to try grits by making grits based casseroles such as a sausage grits casserole or one of our favorites a Mexican grits casserole. Of course, they never got to experience the true essence of expertly prepared grits ...
