Beth, your stories speak to me. I am Southerner through and through. Born in Greenville, South Carolina 83 years ago. My roots go back over 250 years within a 60-mile radius of Greenville. I have lived all over but at retirement we came back to our Southern roots. There is an honest to goodness gentleness in the South that I know and love. So proud of my heritage. Thank you for your stories.
You're very welcome, Carolyn. FYI (and I only recently found this out) - Greenville was founded by a man named Vardry McBee. He came to South Carolina and purchased a large tract of land with the intention of someday founding a town modeled after his own hometown in North Carolina, which was Lincolnton. And Lincolnton is where my own family roots go back 250 years. We still have a McBee Street here. Small world:-)
Vardry was one of the founders of Christ Episcopal Church (where I am a member). He gave the land for the 4 large churches in this city and is buried in our churchyard.

Well written. I was in North Carolina long enough to be smitten by the feeling.
