My family lines go back to the Skinners, Blounts, Creasys, Woods and other families of the area. Athol was one of the homes I was able to watch over the years as it was restored from a neglected state.

Having purchased a 200+ year-old home in Edenton 20 years years ago, I can attest to the passion that this town has for historic preservation, and the beauty of the place reflects that. That said, no article about preservation efforts made in Edenton would be complete without a mention of Samuel Dixon, a local attorney whose own Beverly Hall home, built in 1810, is one of the finest examples of what can be achieved when one's life and heart is committed to the process. Over the course of his life, Mr Dixon has been key to just about every preservation effort that has been made in Edenton. There is not a single project that does not carry Mr Dixon's imprint on it and I personally cannot imagine Edenton being what it is today without his contributions. Darryl Adachi
