Facing forward, looking back. If any of you enjoy daily walks as much as I do, then you must also be fans of changing seasons. Even though the shifts from spring into summer, summer into fall, and fall into winter are much more subtle around here (summer is never very far away in the South), we do have enough seasonal definition to be able to measure the days.
This scene is beautiful because it manages to catch that tuning-fork-moment when autumn has left us and winter has yet to arrive, a brief passage of time that can easily be missed by all but the most observant. The view is both preview and postscript, overture and finale.
Just over this rise, Christmas awaits, then a few mercifully brief weeks of something akin to winter, after which the earth will stretch and yawn and gray will once again turn to green.
Here's to the journey, y'all:-)
