Following up on yesterday’s post about Key West sunrises, there is also this.
Paradise, you say? Why, no. It's just a plain old morning in Key West, all lush and tropical and blue-sky-lit, with quatrefoil brackets - and a porch.
Early morning on this island is delicious. The streets are quiet. The sun is just beginning to dance. And the houses smile, surrounded by every form of frond and leaf one can imagine.
As the day expands, there is almost a sense that they close in on themselves, anticipating the heat, maybe - or the onslaught of humanity which buzzes along the streets like bees on a mission.
Catch these houses waking, however, and you taste a side of this place like no other. There are almost too many of the old places to comprehend, packed inside a small radius of just a mile or so, nearly every one of them authentic and original and beautifully preserved.
Early mornings in Key West, however, have their stories to tell, if you have ears to listen.
