As my month in Key West winds down, I can’t resist sharing this story from two years ago. I still can’t believe I caught this shot.
"Tension on the streets erupted into a brawl early this morning. A nice family of chickens, mama and four or five peeps plus a big daddy rooster were just hanging out in this clump of foliage, trying to pull themselves together for another day on the island, minding their own business.
I saw the whole thing. The subject pictured here (and thank God I got him on camera), totally without provocation, stalked them for a full minute and then dove in without warning.
The squawking and flapping and screeching was painful to watch, but the chicken family emerged unscathed with only a few ruffled feathers, leaving Mr. Big, here, to turn and stalk off in self-righteous indignation.
If anyone can identify this suspect, please call the Key West hotline. I'm sure one exists somewhere. Google will probably know.
