I love sharing hopeful news. Many years ago when I first launched Southern Voice on Facebook, there was an endangered house in south Georgia that was getting a lot of attention. The future did not look bright at all for the McRainey House.
Periodically I would share a photo of the house, taken by my FB buddy, Brian Brown. Sometimes updates would surface. A distant family member even messaged me to say that the extended family still held out hope. That was nearly ten years ago.
Scrolling through my database yesterday, I ran across Brian's photo and thought it might be a good idea to check status on the place, and I'm happy to report that restoration work on the McRainey House is underway. What is more, there is even a Facebook page taking us along for the ride!
So often we see these old places that have been sitting and slowly dying for years if not decades, and we assume that eventually a roof will collapse or lightning will strike, and sometimes that does happen. I even know of one in North Carolina that finally collapsed due to nothing more than a very windy day. But the story of this house is a great example of why we should never give up hope.
Sometimes, Price Charming really does ride in on a white horse.
How can i see the Facebook article and follow along?
Brian does a masterful job reporting on the Vanishing South. I have been a big fan for many years. Thank you for posting this, and may there be many more stories on restoration.
