If ever there was a month to focus on chocolate, February seems to be that month.

I will digress with a quick story about my husband - one that has provided me with many decades of mileage where he is concerned. We began dating right after Christmas, but by the time Valentine’s Day rolled around, it was pretty clear to both of us where this was going, or at least it was to me.

By around 8PM on the night of February 14th, however, I was beginning to wonder. He was later than normal checking in with me - no phone call, no showing up on the doorstep. I was almost ready to be mad at him when, around 8:15, I saw his car pulling in my driveway, following which he came in the door with a huge heart-shaped box of chocolates.

Years later, after we were married, I thought to ask him about that night. Women everywhere can relate to this. We stuff things down and bring them up way after the fact, seemingly out of nowhere. And in this case, had the female statute of limitations not run out on the situation in question, he would have been in deep, deep trouble.

“I was late because you were my third stop of the night”, he said. “I had two other boxes of candy to deliver to two other girls before I came over to your house.”

After enduring about five minutes worth of “what in the #%!!!!!!##?????!!!!!!!!!! do you MEAN, two other boxes of candy and two other girls????????”, he grinned and said, “Hey, calm down. Yours was the largest box. I saved the best for last.”

Speaking of “the best” - this cookie recipe is that, and much more. It is the first of my chocolate offerings for the month of February. I hope you will enjoy it as much as my “three boxes of candy” husband has through the years.
