Good morning, y’all. Just a quick note to check in with you following Hurricane Helene. The news and the photos coming out of Florida, Georgia, and the North Carolina mountains are absolutely heartbreaking. Those folks need our help, and most especially our prayers.
I live 35 miles northwest of Charlotte, NC, and we were slammed as well, but suffered no damage other than a few downed tree limbs and lost power. Our town lies just beyond the base of the mountains, and while there were a few closed roads due to flooding and hundreds of downed trees and snapped power poles, we did not suffer the devastation that has unfolded just up the road.
As much as we love our Southern home, hurricanes are also a part of the story. Please do what you can in the way of disaster relief for the communities that have been devastated, and continue to pray.
Photo of the South Carolina coast from yesterday morning is by my daughter, Ashley Oliphant.
Black Mountain/Montreat, Swannanoa and Asheville are where I grew up. The devastation is indescribable and just heartbreaking. It feels right now like the water swept away much of a happy past. And the difficulties so many are experiencing is hard to take in. Appreciate the aid that so many are trying to get through.
All of our family in NC, SC, GA, and FL are doing alright, so my husband and I are grateful for that. As you mentioned, the tragic loss of lives and damaged or destroyed homes is by far the worst. Where do you think our donations would be of the most help? Thank you! Mindi Lucas
